Grover Wolfe, Thomas's brother, was Ben Wolfe's twin. Grover died tragically
at the age of twelve years from typhoid fever. The Short Story, The Lost Boy
is Thomas Wolfe's poignant tale of remembrance for this lost brother. It was published
in the most complete form as, The Lost Boy: A Novella by Thomas Wolfe, Edited by
James W. Clark, Jr., published by the University of North Carolina Press, 1992.
"...a gentle peering face, a soft caressing voice, unlike
any of the others in kind and quality, a tender olive skin, black hair, sloe-black
eyes, exquisite, rather sad, kindliness...
This was Grover--the gentlest and saddest of the boys."
