Library Policies - Media (A/V) Collection

The Media (A/V) Collection is housed on the first floor of the library and it consists of materials that have been acquired to help meet the instructional, research, and recreational needs of the university community. A/V materials may be selected by faculty and by library staff through regular ordering procedures. Suggestions for titles may be submitted by any library user through the online suggestion box or the Suggestion Box located near the library exit.

The Media (A/V) Collection includes material in the following formats:

BORROWING PRIVILEGES

A/V materials circulate for seven (7) days to eligible borrowers and may be renewed twice. Seven A/V items may be checked out to an individual borrower at any one time. A/V items that have been placed on course reserve by faculty have shorter loan periods, for example 2-hours, 4-hours, 1-day or 3-days.

Faculty who wish to use A/V materials for classroom viewing/listening on specific dates are urged to book the items in advance to insure their availability on the dates desired. Book items in advance by calling the Circulation/Customer Service Desk at 962-3272 or visiting and making the request in person.

EQUIPMENT

Equipment for in-building use of the A/V Collection by students, faculty, and staff is available in the A/V Viewing room. This room is equipped with six DVD/VHS combo players and with a region free DVD player and monitor. It has two small group viewing spaces in addition to the individual viewing spaces. The library also owns a cassette player, turntable, and CD Player. MP3 and DVD players, digital mini-cam recorders, headphones and a fully equipped student presentation workstation are available for checkout at the Circulation/Customer Services Desk. Laptops for checkout by UNCW students, faculty and staff are equipped with CD players for sound (with headphones) or multi-media programs. To maintain compliance with copyright laws, the library does not provide recording or dubbing equipment.

SEARCHING FOR MEDIA

All A/V materials are fully cataloged in the library's online catalog. These collections are shelved on open shelving on the first floor and it is convenient and easy to browse.
