Library Policies - Curriculum Materials Center Development
Policies and procedures related to the day-to-day operation are described in the CURRICULUM MATERIALS CENTER HANDBOOK, revised annually and made available at the CMC Circulation Desk for all users. All policies and procedures established are designed to facilitate optimum use of the facility by students and faculty of the School of Education. It is understood, however, that all materials housed in the CMC, and the services provided by the staff, are available to all members of the University community and to teachers in the surrounding area.
The various types of materials housed in the CMC will be appropriate to the specific mission of the facility. Generally, materials included in the collection must be directly related to the planning and delivery of instruction for K-12. The collection may include:
1. Curriculum guides (K-12)
2. Basal texts (K-12) state-adopted and some non-state-adopted for use in the North Carolina public schools, with teacher guides, workbooks, and tests.
3. Supplementary program materials.
4. Tests and other diagnostic materials.
5. Audiovisual kits and other nonbook materials in the following formats: slides, filmstrips, charts, games, audiocassettes, videocassettes, phonodiscs, computer diskettes.
6. Certain basic reference materials such as dictionaries and encyclopedias.
7. Subscriptions to children's magazines approved by the University Librarian.
8. Lesson plans, pamphlets, and other vertical file materials.
A portion of the annual materials budget allocated to the School of Education may be used for purchasing materials within these guidelines. The specific amount to be used for this purpose will be agreed upon annually by the CMC Librarian and the CMC Committee. It is understood that the Randall Library will remain the major resource for research materials required by students and faculty of the School of Education.
This general policy statement for the CMC will be reconsidered annually to allow for the
possibility of advantageous changes.
