Biographical
Sketch and Description
Wallace C. Murchison of Wilmington, North Carolina began practicing law in the 1940s and married during the same time. In June of 1963, Governor Sanford establishes The North Carolina Fund, a non-profit, charitable corporation. The Corporation was created to study problems associated with improving education and economic opportunities for North Carolinians. The public's general welfare was in mind while the Fund recommended grants for research within the state which would seek solutions to problems while using public and philanthropic funds. The North Carolina Fund focused on a solution to poverty and a dependency, while recommending which organizational and financial changes in governmental and community services would be required. Mr. Murchison was a member of this corporation and served from 1963 - 1971
Mr. Murchison assisted the Diocese of
Eastern Carolina, where he served as Director of the Finance Department.
He also was involved with Senator Alton Lennon's campaign each election steering
a committee to register voters for Senator Lennon. Other government
official, including Governor Sanford, received his attention also.
The
Manuscript includes correspondence between Mr. Murchison and delegates, along
with New Hanover County polling sites.
The Murchison Manuscript contains publications, correspondence, and newspaper clippings associated with the North Carolina Fund. Along with these are publications and correspondence regarding the Diocese of Eastern Carolina, including Wills and financial documents of the Diocese. The Collection includes publications on housing from the government and private companies. Mr. Murchison's home floor plans, along with housing advertisements and handwritten specifications for additions are among the Manuscript papers. Also, business and private taxes, bank deposit receipts and IRS forms and publications. Mr. Murchison lives in Wilmington, where he is now retired. His son, Michael Murchison, has replaced his father in the law practice.
