Alice Morriss Fechtig Post Card
Collection
1929-1969
Alice “Allie” Fechtig was born in Wilmington, NC on July 25, 1896 and was
the daughter of the later Frederick Hart and Allie Allen Fechtig. During her lifetime Miss Fechtig was a
world traveler and collected hundreds of postal cards from the many cities and
countries that she visited. Many of
her friends would send her cards from their travels. Miss Fechtig died in Wilmington, NC on
January 25, 1971.
This is a collection of eleven albums of postal cards, one hundred and sixteen loose postal cards, seven photographs and two copies of a diary of letters and cables written to her father on her tour of Europe, June 6-September 16, 1929. Many of the cards in the Collections are in color and some appear to be hand painted. They include the major European tourist attractions. Other countries included in the Collection are the United States and Hawaii, the Caribbean Island, Russia and Japan. Of the postage cards received from friends, almost all of them still have the postage stamps affixed.
The Estate of Alice Morriss Fechtig was to the William Madison Randall Library on March 29, 1971.
