H. J. Southwell Murder
This collection includes correspondence regarding the trial in the murder of H. J. Southwell, an engineer on the Atlantic Coast Line and a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. During the shopmen's strike in July 1922, Southwell was working on the line in Wilmington when he was shot by H. E. Dallas. This collection spans the two years following Southwell's death. The letters herein record the obtaining of an attorney in the prosecution and the soliciting of funds from union brothers.
