The University of North Carolina Wilmington's Randall Library invites you to explore the rich history of surfing along the Cape Fear coast. For surf aficionados, local history buffs and casual observers alike, the exhibit “Country Soul: The Surfing Experience in Southeastern North Carolina” offers a glimpse into the vibrant world of surfing in the Tarheel State. Featuring vintage surfboards from local shapers, t-shirts, posters, photographs, newspaper clippings, and related surf ephemera, the exhibit chronicles the region's surf history from the early 1960s to the present and celebrates a colorful cast of individuals who transformed surfing from a small countercultural phenomenon into a diverse increasingly mainstream sport. Located in the library's Special Collections gallery on the second floor of Randall Library, the exhibit runs from February 1 through November 30, 2008 and is open to the public. During this time, there will be various events held in conjunction with the exhibit so check this site periodically for more information. |
