CIAO (Columbia International Affairs Online)

Columbia International Affairs Online (CIAO) is the most comprehensive source for theory and research in international affairs. It publishes a wide range of scholarship from 1991 onward that includes working papers from university research institutes, occasional papers series from NGOs, foundation-funded research projects, proceedings from conferences, books, journals and policy briefs.

Points of View Reference Center

A great resource for understanding the pro-con viewpoints on a variety of issues. Limiting your search results to "Academic Journals" will give you scholarly works.

Google Scholar

Finds ciations to articles, books and book chapters. Also provides a sense of how many times the publication has been cited. From off-campus, links to full-text will not work, so be sure to use the "Have a citation? Looking for a journal?" link on the library homepage or the library catalog to see if the library provides access to the publication.

The Randall Catalog searches among UNCW's collection of over 460,000 books, 29,000 ebooks, nearly 700,000 government documents, and nearly 24,000 videos (DVD and VHS). The catalog also serves as a gateway to ejournals, since journals are cataloged with information about physical holdings and links to online providers. The catalog can also be expanded to include the holdings of UNC Coastal Library Consortium partners UNC Pembroke and Fayetteville State University. When searching the UNCCLC Catalog, you can put a hold on items at the other libraries for expedited Interlibrary Loan (ILL).

Catalogs are keyword searchable, but also use a controlled vocabulary of Library of Congress Subject Headings. When overwhelmed by a keyword search, or if you don't find what you wanted, check to see what subject headings are used on the most relevant items.
