First Year Seminar (First Year Library Survival Guide)

There are nine iPrint stations located in Randall Library.  Each station is identified with an iPrint banner.  On the first floom there are five iPrint stations located in the Learning Commons, one station next to Java City Coffee Bar, and one in the copy room near the Technology Assistance Center (TAC). On the second floor there is an iPrint station outside of Special Collections and one in the Graduate Computer Lab. Please see the Randall Library floor maps for locations of these areas.

Students may use the Value Transfer Station near Circulation to add money to their cards or do so online uncwonecard.blackboard.com, which requires a minimum deposit of $5.00. During business hours, Auxiliary Services will also be able to accept money and add it to students’ cards.

Randall Library generally does not purchase textbooks for UNCW classes. However, the library does have some textbooks. There is no textbook section in the library to browse.

For students, faculty, and staff at UNCW, there is no limit to the number of books you can check out from the General Collection.  Featured new books, DVDs, VHS tapes and CDs have a limit of 7 items checked out at one time, in any combination (for example, 4 DVDs and 3 CDs).

Non-university borrowers may check out a total of 4 items from any part of the library's collection.  The only exception to this is Government Documents; all users may check out an unlimited number of materials from Government Documents.

There are three ways to renew library items:

1. Log on to your library record, check the items to renew, click renew; or
2. Call the Circulation desk @ 910.962.3272; or
3. Contact us via chat or email.

 The following equipment is available to check out at the Equipment Checkout Desk on the first floor of Randall Library:

• Laptop computers (Dell and Apple) – 4-hour checkout for students
• Headphones – 4-hour checkout for students/ faculty/staff.
• Flip video cameras - 7-day checkout for students / faculty / staff
• Flash drives – 3-day checkout for students/ faculty/staff. 
• eReaders-14-day checkout only by UNCW students, staff, and faculty.

• Group study rooms are available for groups of two or more on both the first and second floors of the library.
• They can be reserved online via our Group Study Room Reservations calendar.
• The rooms may be reserved and used by currently enrolled students, staff and faculty of UNCW.
• Reservations are for a maximum of two hours a day per group, and no more than 2 reservations per group per week.
• Reservations can be made up to 2 weeks in advance.

• Go to Course Reserves or click on Course Reserves on the library homepage.
• Find your reserve item by: Department | Instructor.
• When the copyright message displays, click "Accept" to view the course page.
• The course page displays and lists all materials on reserve.
• Web link format -- This item is available in one of the full text databases to which the library subscribes. When you click on the link, you will see the article in the database or the scanned image of the article.  Follow the instructions in the database to print or email the article.   
• Read the article online, save or print it. If you wish to magnify the image online, in Adobe Acrobat click on the icon with the magnifying glass and + sign, then click inside the article window.
• If you are having problems with this link, please delete cache and cookies, close/open the browser, and try again.
