Report of IUG Annual Meeting by Dan and Arlene
Arlene and Dan stated that there were a lot of changes that will occur
with Release 2000. The Advanced
Searching feature will totally remove the keyword index.
Decisions have to be made to add fields or limits, before a search is
done and not just on material type, but anything that we can place a limit
on. A limit feature will need
to be installed before the software is loaded.
The Consortium will need to look at the 500 fields, such as 504 -
bibliographies. Dan stated that
the Consortium Committee should take a look at the Advanced Searching to get
clarification, before we make a decision on it.
Arlene demonstrated the Colorado State web page for advanced
searching. Also, Kent State and
University of Washington were mentioned as other beta test sites.
A lengthy demonstration of Advanced Searching was done by Arlene, and
handouts were passed out summarizing the programs that Arlene and Dan had
attended at the Innovative User’s Conference.
The url for Colorado State advanced searching screen is: http://libcolostate.edu/sage/avs.
4.
Distribution and installation of Millennium Offline Circulation Ver.

record #387 in the Millennium Users Manual.

checkout . Staff will need to
use a patron’s barcode to check out materials.
Dan mentioned that he would leave handouts at the Circulation Desk
describing how to use the Millennium Offline Software.
5.
Distribution and
installation of Millennium Serials
Dan
also, loaded this software on the computer in the Periodicals Department at
Fayetteville State University. Arlene
stated that once this software was loaded, you cannot go back to using the
text base check-in records. Other
problems with Millennium Serials were discussed.
6.
Upgrade to Rel. 2000-B
It was mentioned that some changes had been made in Release 2000, but
the decisions about it would not be made at this time.
Dan will try to get it up and running this summer.

a meeting at the end of July to discuss any concerns that the Consortia has.

numbers on student accounts. Fayetteville
uses them, but UNC-Wilmington plans to get away from using social security
numbers.
9.
Supplying ILL’s by E-mail in the Consortia
Robert Canida wants this to be revisited. Book Holds are working okay.
Journal Ill’s could be e-mailed once the Consortia decides to start

Ariel software will allow you to scan and transmit articles.

further.

Biological Abstracts, Silver Platter Databases and Web of Science.
Also, concerns about clearing files.
12.
Internet Cataloging Update
Arlene stated Annie Wu had done some Internet Cataloging and Arlene
suggested that Annie take the place of Ruth on the Internet Cataloging
Committee. Arlene also mentioned
that as soon as UNC-Wilmington fills the Cataloging position, then they will
make a decision on Internet Cataloging.
There was not a final decision made to the Internet Cataloging
