UNC Coastal Library Consortium
Advisory Council Meeting
November 20, 1997
Pembroke, NC
Members present: Bob Canida, Jean Sexton, Dan Pfhol, Elois Cave, Sue Cody, Ron Johnson, Arlene Hanerfeld
I. The minutes of the May 14, 1997 meeting were approved.
II. Ron reported that most Release 11 features are working as documented. Release 11 Webpac is located at 152.20.26.1:2080, and we agreed to change to it at the beginning of Spring Semester. Ron has changed it to a single frame and is working on editing help screens, adding back buttons, changing bottom and top logos, and changing menu titles. UNCW is working on a UNCW virtual library tour that is hotlinked to INNOPAC locations.
III. The Web Management Software is $11,500 plus $115/month maintenance. The directors are meeting soon to discuss payment for the software.
There was discussion concerning access to Infotrac web and text based products.
Dan mentioned that he was interested in using the BIP interface and would like a copy of UNCW's procedures.
IV. There was a discussion about cataloging electronic resources. We discussed procedures for sharing cataloging records and collection development issues concerning choosing materials to catalog. We will continue to explore this issue and keep each other up to date on local decisions to catalog electronic resources.
V. Dan showed us the new mailer FSU is using for printing notices.
VI. The policy of cooperative borrowing between the three institutions was clarified, and there was discussion of procedures for collecting fees from each other's borrowers. The issue of extending privileges to all campuses was raised at a ULAC meeting and we can expect to hear more about this from the directors.
Some Interlibrary Loan issues were discussed. We previously asked the director's to discuss ILL borrowing and a courier service among ourselves. UNCP is not currently a lender due to their move, and will resume lending when their new cables are installed. UNCW is temporarily suspending lending services during the upcoming move of their offices.
VII. UNCW added some order codes relating to use tax and asked that we eliminate printing the line of codes on the purchase order and claim forms, since the use tax messages may be confusing to vendors. All members agreed to change this printing option.
VIII. Sue wanted to discuss the Copyright Clearance Center consortium pricing, but she found out we didn't qualify.
IX. We discussed our evaluations of PsychInfo from Ovid. FSU doesn't want Ovid, UNCW wants PsychInfo but maybe not from Ovid, and UNCP would like to renew for 1 year. It is a ULAC decision, and the subscription expires in February. Perhaps NCLIVE will solve the problem.
X. Interlibrary Loan problems with accessing ERIC remotely were discussed. It is a Z39.50 problem that Innovative is working on.
XI. Ron asked if UNCP & FSU still needed directories on the UNCW server. Ron will remove them.
The next meeting will be in Wilmington in the spring.
We looked at the Release 11 version of the Webpac before adjourning.
